So how do you actually fix the liquid damage on your MacBook after the water has been spilled on the MacBook?
Before we get to that it is imperative you understand what happens when liquid is spilled on your MacBook. You might have some questions on what a water damage repair on a MacBook entails, and we will try our best to explain as much as we can on this page.
So what happens when you spill any kind of liquid on a MacBook? Well, MacBooks are complicated machines that have hundreds if not thousands of circuits on them. These circuits work together to bring your computer to life.
When you spill any kind of liquid on your computer, there usually is a surge of power along these circuits which can cause capacitors to explode. Now, this may not always be the case. Sometimes the oxidation from the water can just cause corrosion on these capacitors (or resistors) and just break the circuit that way too.
The latter is usually much easier to fix (and costs less too). So now that you know what happens when your MacBook is exposed to water, you’re probably wondering how much it will cost to get it fixed.
Apple will quote you between $850 to $1,600 to repair Macbook water damage. What they usually do is just replace the whole logicboard which is very inefficient. Think about it, if your car has a broken alternator, you don’t replace the whole engine! Apple is more interested in selling you a new computer rather than letting you use your existing one.
Every computer and repair is different so we will ask that you leave your MacBook with us for a little while and we will give you an estimate as to what it will cost.
Our estimates for MacBooks that do not have the thunderbolt ports (Older than 2016) are free! Newer models have a $50 diagnostic fee which is payable when you bring in the MacBook.
So what should you do after your MacBook has been exposed to liquid?
The first thing you should do is stop using it. Do not try to turn it on, do not charge it, and for god’s sake do not put it in rice (this will just cover everything in rice residue).
Rice simply absorbs water and you can achieve the same thing by flipping your MacBook upside down and leaving it to try — it’ll do the same thing but without coating everything in rice residue.
